The day by day calendar for Baji will be the following:
Friday: Body movement & closing the distance
Saturday: Explosive power & using the whole body as a weapon
Footwork and elbow strikes
Master Lü Baochun (1956-) is a living legend of traditional Chinese martial arts. He stands out amongst his generation of martial artists as someone who through his diligence and hard work had the opportunity to learn as an indoor student from some of the second half of the 20th century's greatest martial artists. Master Lü is internationally recognized for his deep understanding of the principles and application of Taiji as well as his raw fighting ability and incomparable speed, power and body movement in Bajiquan. Lü Baochun has lived and taught in Helsinki, Finland for the past 15 years, where he is the main teacher of Baji Association.
This workshop is a culmination point between two of Master Lü’s central interests in martial arts: Bajiquan as taught to him by renowned Baji masters and fighters Zhang Xuchu and Han Longchuan and Chen-style Taiji as taught to him by the legendary Feng Zhiqiang. These masters belong to the generation that is widely known as the last generation of it’s kind in China to produce a variety of extremely capable fighters, who still had the martial spirit that made Chinese systems of hand-to-hand combat famous around the world.
Master Lü Baochun has taught dozens of workshops all over Europe and his firm grasp of the English-language has made him a favourite of those practicing traditional Chinese martial arts who want to learn the meaning of “true gongfu”.
This workshop will take place outdoors, in the Villa Ada park in Rome, Italy. (see map)
The focus of the Chen-style Taiji portion will be on posture, movement and breathing combined for internal training, on the basis of the Yi Lu form.
In the Baji portion we will focus on the small form, the first four jingang bashi and relevant applications/pair training and fighting.
*with small drinking breaks
There is a total of 5 hours of training per day.
The workshop is divided into two groups: one group will be training Chen-style Taiji and the other group will be training Bajiquan. Master Lü Baochun will alternate between instructing both of these groups throughout the day. Generally speaking, Master Lü will teach one group in the morning and the other group in the afternoon.
Those who are interested in ONLY training Baji or Chen-style Taiji will have the opportunity to continue training for the entire duration under the instruction and supervision of students selected by Master Lü, whom he has prepared for this task. It is completely acceptable to switch between Chen-style and Baji according to one’s own interests or, for example, if you want to spend as much time learning directly from Master Lü as possible.
For Chen-style Taiji the assistant teacher is Joona Sillanpää, one of Master Lü’s longest and closest students in Finland.
For Baji Andrea De Dominicis from Italy, will be responsible for translating into Italian.
